Capturing the eccentric, magnetic spirit of the French Quarter, this silver-gelatin photograph presents an unforgettable portrait of street life in New Orleans. Seated cross-legged on the sidewalk with a live black chicken perched atop her head and holding a fluffy Silkie, the subject locks eyes with the camera, surrounded by handwritten signs, vinyl records, and vibrant local lore. Leigh Ann Edmonds’ traditional darkroom craftsmanship brings out rich grain, deep blacks, and intricate textures—from the details in the feathers to the worn pavement of NOLA.
