STREET MACADAM LIVE: In Conversation with Bahar Cömert
On this episode of @street_macadam English LIVES, I had the pleasure of hosting street photographer, psychologist, and psychoanalyst Bahar Cömert for a thoughtful and layered conversation about the intersection of psychology and street photography.
We explored how the unconscious mind influences the way we see and what draws us to certain moments in public space. Is a powerful street photograph purely instinctual, or is it shaped by deeper emotional and psychological frameworks? Bahar shared how her background in psychology informs her approach to observing human behavior, reading subtle gestures, and recognizing emotional undercurrents within everyday scenes.
We also discussed perception — how photographers project, interpret, and construct meaning through framing and timing. From empathy to intuition, from distance to intimacy, our conversation examined how awareness of human complexity can deepen the impact of a street image.
It was an insightful dialogue about seeing beyond the surface — about patience, emotional intelligence, and the hidden narratives unfolding in public life. If you’re interested in the psychology behind powerful street photography, this conversation offers a compelling perspective.
