Rooted in the American South | Born and raised in rural Alabama, Leigh Ann Edmonds has spent years creating a soulful, gritty visual journal of everyday Southern life. Her work is a testament to the power of traditional analog process, honoring the deep history, craft, and preservation of the photographic medium in an increasingly digital world.
A Legacy of Analog Craft
Leigh Ann’s artistic foundation was forged at The University of Alabama, where she earned a BA in Studio Art. There, she studied darkroom processes under the late Gay Burke: a master artist famously mentored by legendary photographer Walker Evans. Carrying forward this lineage of traditional craftsmanship, Leigh Ann is dedicated to preserving the integrity, history, and physical art of traditional photography.

BEHIND THE CHUTE: A multi-award-winning long-term documentary series capturing the raw grit, emotion, and behind-the-scenes reality of the rodeo circuit.
Gay Burke Fellowship (2026): Named a grant recipient by the Alabama State Council on the Arts, honoring her ongoing commitment to capturing the spirit and stories of the American South.

Legacy and Life
Based in her small hometown of Mount Olive, Alabama, Leigh Ann continues her personal mission to archive Southern culture through her lens. She shares her life with her husband, Gary, and their three beloved rescue dogs: Biggie, Reo, and Millie. Her work has been featured in leading publications including MonoVisions, All About Photo, B&W Magazine, Street Photography Magazine, Dodho Magazine, The Pictorial List, Street Photography Mentor, and Birmingham Lifestyle.

The American South

Limited edition photographs by Leigh Ann Edmonds are hand-enlarged silver-gelatin prints meticulously crafted in the artist's traditional darkroom. These works utilize Ilford Multigrade FB Classic matte paper—a double-weight (255 g/m²) 100% fiber base—to achieve extraordinary tonal depth, luminous contrast, and exceptional archival permanence.
Each print is individually numbered, signed, and dated with the image capture year on the recto (front) by the artist. En verso (back), the print is stamped in archival ink with the artist's logo and includes the title, location, paper specifications, print year, and signature, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
